The Proper Love and Fear of God and Man
Piety has helpfully been explained as the proper love and fear of God and man expressed in the duty, love, and respect owed to God, parents, and communal authorities past and present.
Piety includes cultivating faithfulness in relationships and commitment to traditions of place and time. It shapes our being and identifies who we are.
For these reasons, piety is a central focus of our program at Legacy.
Humanities must be at the heart of a Christian education.
If our purpose is to know God, and humans are uniquely made in His image, then the humanities are rightfully placed at the heart of Christian education.
In Christian liberal arts, the humanities encompass the study of human culture, thought, and experience through the lens of faith. This includes disciplines like literature, philosophy, history, and theology, which explore the human condition, moral values, and the search for truth and meaning.
The humanities are rooted in the belief that all truth is God’s truth, and they aim to cultivate wisdom, virtue, and a deeper understanding of God’s creation. By integrating faith and reason, the humanities help students develop a well-rounded, Christ-centered worldview that informs their lives and actions.
WE ARE FORMED BY
Essential Principles of Classical Pedagogy
-
Tutors work to ensure mastery of each learning step and do not advance scholars to further study until mastery has been reached.
Students diligently make progress, with encouragement and support, doing their best unto the Lord, with mastery as the goal
-
Tutors prefer to teach a few things deeply and well rather than cursorily covering many things that will not be mastered.
Students discipline themselves in academics and life to focus on one area thoroughly, being mindful and making choices that are aligned with what matters most.
-
Tutors understand that regular repetition and review are necessary to acquire mastery.
Students expect and welcome regular repetition within their learning as they strive for mastery instead of short-term memorization for testing.
